Install faucet aerators/water-save showerhead (50 percent savings)

Install water-save toilet (50 percent savings)

How do I check for leaks??

Turn off all faucets. Read the water meter when not using shower, washer/dishwasher etc. . Wait 15-30 minutes and read the meter again. If the meter reading is different, there is a leak somewhere. Contact a plumber if you can not address the leaks yourself.

How can you check if the toilet is leaking?

Add food coloring to the tank. If it shows up in the bowl without flushing, there is a leak.
