Construction Permit Application 

Landlord/Rental Unit Registration Form

Under N.J.S.A. 46:8-27 and N.J.S.A. 55:13A-1, landlords of residential rental units in NJ are required to register their rental units.  Homes in Clark with two or less units must register with the Clark Construction Office.  A dwelling with more than two units is required to process their dwellings with the Department of Community Affairs (DCA).

Uniform Construction Code

The Clark Township Construction Department is responsible for the enforcement of the building codes as set forth in the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. Any building, electrical and plumbing work shall comply with the IRC 2006 NJ Edition, the IBC 2006 NJ Edition, the NEC 2005 (the National Electrical Code) and the National Standard Plumbing 2006.

Inspections are performed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  They are scheduled according to availability.  Due to the nature of their work, exact times of an inspector's arrival cannot be provided, instead the inspector will arrive some time within these hours:

    • Plumbing and Building    10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
    • Electric                               11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
    • Fire                                     1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

When undertaking work on your home, homeowners should be aware that home improvement contractors must be registered with the Division of Consumer Affairs. Homeowners who enter into contracts should be aware and look for the registration numbers on all documents, advertisements and vehicles. Homeowners may check the New Jersey consumer Affairs website for frequently asked questions and contractor information.

Permits

Prior to performing any work on your home, a permit application packet can be obtained at the Construction Office. Paperwork may vary according to the type of work being performed. Applications must be filled out completely. Click on each individual sub code (Building, Electric, Plumbing and Fire) for additional information. All permit applications are below, please scroll down.  All prior approvals from the Zoning Officer must be obtained when applicable prior to submitting applications to the Construction Office. Permits are required for most home improvement projects, whether inside or outside the home.
