Boy Scout Troop 145 Gathers For a Special Send Off of Leadership

At a recent Township Council meeting, Mayor Angel Albanese proudly presented Mayoral Proclamations to four dedicated leaders of Boy Scout Troop 145, recognizing their outstanding service and commitment to the youth of Clark. Honorees Ed Merola, John Cistaro, Sharon Prusakowski, and Hernan Garcia were each acknowledged for more than 12 years of exceptional guidance and leadership.

“Under their direction, the troop has served as an example of how a scout organization should be run—setting a standard for excellence and commitment,” said Mayor Albanese during the presentation.

The mayor also reflected on the lasting impact of scouting in Clark, noting, “It’s really amazing how in Clark the Boy Scout Troops have had so many Eagle Scouts. When you look at the list of citizens—now grown men, even grandparents—who have earned that honor, and see so many of them here tonight."  She continued on to reflect on how these Eagle Scouts represent a true tribute to scouting and to each of the leaders that have taken on these important roles over the years.

Following the mayor’s remarks, Council President Bill Smith read the official proclamations into the record, further cementing the township’s appreciation for the honorees’ years of service.

Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad Honors Two Cadets with Annual Scholarships

The Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad (CVES) proudly awarded its annual scholarships to two Cadet members who have shown remarkable dedication to both their community and future careers in healthcare.

Emily Miekina was named the recipient of the Harry Jarvis Memorial Scholarship, an award established in memory of a devoted CVES member who tragically lost his life during a snowstorm. This scholarship honors his legacy by supporting high school seniors pursuing careers in the medical field.

Emily currently attends the Academy for Allied Health Sciences, where she discovered a passion for medicine. As a Cadet with CVES, she’s actively contributing to emergency response efforts in Clark and neighboring towns while gaining hands-on experience that aligns with her goal of working in healthcare.

Atharva Tyagi received the Jack and Josephine Quinn Scholarship, named in honor of two longstanding CVES members. Jack Quinn served as the squad’s training officer and taught CPR throughout the community, while Josephine Quinn was a dedicated member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Together, they played a vital role in the growth and success of the squad. This scholarship is awarded to a student entering the medical field with strong leadership and service credentials.

Atharva’s resume includes serving as Class President, co-founding the Biocomp Club, and acting as Director of Finances for Model UN. He’s also participated in the prestigious Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Program (ASSIP). His long-term goal is to become a physician-scientist, merging healthcare and innovation.

CVES congratulates both scholarship recipients and thanks them for their service. Anyone interested in learning more about the squad or how to get involved is encouraged to email CVES@ourclark.com.
