Union County Warns Residents of Law Enforcement Phone Scam
Union County officials are warning residents about a phone scam that has recently resurfaced in the area. According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, scammers are impersonating law enforcement officers and falsely claiming that individuals have outstanding arrest warrants—often related to missed jury duty or court appearances.
These callers may appear legitimate by spoofing official phone numbers, using the names of real officers, or even sending fake warrant documents that include personal information. The goal of these calls is to pressure victims into making immediate payments or sharing sensitive information.
Residents are reminded that law enforcement agencies will never demand payment over the phone, request gift cards or cryptocurrency, threaten immediate arrest for nonpayment, or ask for personal or financial information.
If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately. A report is only necessary if money or personal information has already been shared.
